World Cleanup in Rio+20 at 19th of June!
This month the United Nations will hold the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development, also known as Rio 2012 or Rio+20, hosted by Brazil in Rio de Janeiro, as a 20-year follow-up to the historic 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) that was held in the same city. The Rio+20 conference will be held from 20-22 June 2012 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Rio+20 is a key milestone in a series of major United Nations conferences, in which the 1992 Earth Summit / United Nations Conference on Environment and Development was the centerpiece, putting sustainable development as a top priority on the agenda of the United Nations and the international community. This is a meetingplace for hundreds of NGO-s, journalists and politicians who are by their mission or duty dedicating their efforts to reach a cleaner and healthier world.
Let's Do It! movement is present in Rio+20 and organizing a cleanup action on 19th of June, in Parque Garota de Ipanema - a beautiful park next to the ocean, situated between Rio's most famous beaches - Copacabana and Ipanema. This action is a symbolic effort, to combine the forces of the delegations from the countries all around the world. This World Cleanup Rio+20 action is organized to deliver the message that the problems we are facing today need immediate action from all the people and communities living on planet Earth. There are no borders to these challenges we are facing! The organizing team has sent out the invites to all the countries' delegations that are present in Rio to take part in the cleanup.
