World Cleanup 2012

Cleanup project: Let's do it, France! – 22.09.2012 (All day)
Contact: julien@letsdoitfrance.org
Actual number of volunteers: 9134
Amount of waste collected: 341 tons
Short overview
We had just random people (70%) and a few local NGOs that are fighting against trash (30%). A lot of people were happy to participate but our communication campaign started very late - 6 weeks prior the event. The big NGO working on cleanups refused to participate with us. Some local authorities cleaned the trash before we came. This year was a test for us, we need to do another action next year... Situation before the cleanup We have really inaccurate data. We have about 1000 illegal dump sites in France.

Short overview of mapping. We had an incomplete mapping, the mapping tool was not good enough to set up the cleanup.
Mapped garbage points: 500
Cleaned garbage points: 80
Waste handling. 60% of total garbage went to recycling, we don't have the information for the 40%
Waste types. Paper, plastics, metal, glass and the rest

Some lovely story from the cleanup day

At some points we didn't get any container form the municipality so we decided to use a guy with a skate board to go to the main separating waste facility.
