Digital Cleanup Day

raising awareness about digital pollution and e-waste

Digital Cleanup Day (DCD) is dedicated to cleaning up our digital spaces, just like we clean up our physical environment on World Cleanup Day

DCD encourages individuals and companies to declutter & restructure their online presence.

DCD: Digital Cleanup Day was established in 2020 by Let's Do It World in collaboration with Telia Estonia, which had been running the initiative in Estonia since 2018.

This annual campaign encourages people, organizations, and communities to evaluate their digital habits and take action by removing unnecessary digital content—such as unused applications, redundant emails, excess photos and files, or unwanted newsletter subscriptions.

These actions help reduce carbon dioxide emissions, contributing to climate change mitigation. The internet and its supporting infrastructure generate approximately 1 billion tonnes of CO2 annually.

Over its five yearly campaigns, Digital Cleanup Day has attracted 1,184,717 participants across 175 countries and territories worldwide, resulting in the deletion of more than 14.5 million gigabytes of unnecessary data.
