The President of the Republic of Estonia, Kersti Kaljulaid, Jeremy Gilley, Founder of Peace One Day, Rich Anthony, President of Zero Waste International Alliance and Arrey Obenson, Secretary General of JCI, took part in a panel discussion titled ‘Cleanup Heroes’.

A strong message of being proactive reverberated throughout the session. President Kaljulaid said: “We don’t need to fight. We all need to work together,” to emphasise the fact that as citizens we can all contribute and needn’t back down in the face of big corporations.

The President also said that ten years after the first cleanup day in Estonia, we have become a society that gives more thought to the environment and will not throw out trash from our car windows, for instance. We have become much more aware of our surroundings and impact on the planet.

Arrey Obenson similarly noted that every citizen can play a huge part in bettering our world. He noted that as citizens, we should not wait for the government to change things, but we can take the first step ourselves. “You are powerful! You can do everything you dream of!” he said.
