Kosovo’s Let’s Do It! Action Brought Over 60 000 Volunteers to Clean Up Illegal Waste

On May 24, Let’s Do It! Kosovo organized a massive waste cleanup with the help of more than 60 000 volunteers in 30 municipalities. As a result, 147 illegal landfills were eliminated. Waste cleanups also took place in other sites of the country and a total of more than 5000 tons of garbage was cleaned up in just one day.

“The biggest turnout was in the municipality of Prishtina, in the neighbourhood of Kalabria, where more than 500 volunteers were engaged. The largest number of illegal landfills – twenty-one – was removed by our volunteers from the municipality of Podujeva. This makes Podujeva the most successful municipality in Kosovo for this year’s Let’s Do It! cleanup day,” commented Luan Hasanaj, the leader of Let’s Do It! Kosovo (Ta Pastrojmë Kosovën).

“The commitment to this day, by everyone ranging from major state institutions to pupils of primary schools, is a clear indicator, that all have started to be aware of the importance of a clean environment,” joyfully expressed Hasanaj about the changes taking place in his home country.

The activities were supported by the Ministry of the Environment, all the Kosovo municipalities, Kosovo Security Forces and the European Union office in Kosovo.
