World Cleanup Day 2024

This year's event takes place on Friday 20 September following our addition to the UN Calendar of International Days!

We aim to activate 5% of the world's population that will catalyse lasting societal change in behaviour around mismanaged waste.

We invite people from all sectors, from every nation, from all levels of society to join us. Let's do it – together!

Let's Do It World Timeline

Let's Do It! 2008

On 3 May, over 50,000 people in Estonia – that's 4% of the population – came out and cleaned up the whole country in just 5 hours. This was the day a global, bottom-up civic movement was born and it spread like a green wave around the globe.

Let's Do It World 2012

From March until September, over 96 countries and territories held one-day cleanups, with over a million volunteers turning out, one highlight being Slovenia’s turnout – 14% of its entire population! The ‘Let’s Do It World’ movement was born.

Let's Do It World 2014

Preparations for the first, coordinated, single-day ‘World Cleanup Day’ started, led by the Let’s Do It Foundation in Tallinn, with targets to launch in 2018 and reach 5% of global population, the ‘tipping point’ needed to generate sustained societal change.

Let's Do It World 2018

The first coordinated World Cleanup Day was held on 15 September. The green wave of cleanups started in Fiji and ended in American Samoa 36 hours later. Over 18 million volunteers from 157 countries and territories participated.

Let's Do It World 2019

The Let’s Do It World NGO was established, representing and coordinating leaders and volunteers across the whole of the Let’s Do It World network. World Cleanup Day 2019 united over 21 million people from 180 countries and territories.

Let's Do It World 2020

The first global Digital Cleanup Day was held on Earth Day, 22 April, emphasising the growing environmental impact of digital waste. World Cleanup Day 2020 attracted almost 9 million people from 166 countries and territories, in spite of Covid-19.

Let's Do It World 2021

Let’s Do It World’s Annual Conference was held virtually for the first time, attracting over 2,500 delegates worldwide. Even in another Covid-19 year, almost 9 million people participated in World Cleanup Day, from an incredible 191 countries and territories!

Let's Do It World 2022

Free from pandemic restrictions, 2022’s events saw participant numbers approach pre-Covid times, back on track towards creating lasting societal impact through 5% global engagement. World Cleanup Day attracted 15 million people from 190 countries and territories.

Let's Do It World 2023

In a year that saw us receive the UNSDG’s Mobilization award, 19.1 M participants delivered our 2nd best ever year, with many new national records set. 211 countries and territories, including 95% of UN-listed nations, helped us pass the 1% global engagement mark.
